Air pollution in our cities is increasing alarmingly. According to environmentalists, vehicles are one of the major contributors to air pollution. They recommend use of public transport by private vehicle owners. People in general are willing to switch over from private to public transport if there is a good system in place. Importance of an efficient public transport system


If there is something Indian cities are showing great progress in, it has to be in the levels of air pollution that is swarming the cities. The levels of smog in the capital is alarming and has made environmentalists take deep concern. According to their research, a number of factors are to blame for – construction and urbanization, lifestyles, day-to-day products like refrigerators and so on. The number one culprit according to them, however, are vehicles.


Vehicles contribute vastly to air pollution. The number of private vehicles on roads today signifies how much exhaust they release into the surrounding every single day. The thing to worry about is that with improvement in general lifestyle, these figures are going higher up.


The ideal way to deal with the situation is to use public transport, even by private vehicle owners, whenever possible. This will happen only if the public transport system is designed efficiently enough to offer the requisites of safety, comfort and time value. It is definitely a realizable dream and the country is surely on the way to achieve efficient public transport systems in different parts of the country today.
