A man has some hens and cows. If the number of heads be 48 and number of feet be 140, how many cows are there?

Let us assume the number of hens be x and that of cows be y

According to the question, we have


x + y = 48 …(i)


2x + 4y = 140


x + 2y = 70 …(ii)


Now, subtracting (i) from (ii) we get:


y = 22


Hence, the number of cows is 22
