Q27 of 47 Page 1

Solve for x:

Given,

⇒

⇒ 3 (x2 – 9x + 18 + x2 – 9x + 20) = 10 (x2 – 10x + 24)

⇒ 3 (2x2 – 18x + 38) = 10x2 – 100x + 240

⇒ 6x2 – 54x + 114 = 10x2 – 100x + 240

⇒ 4x2 – 46x + 126 = 0

⇒ 2x2 – 23x + 63 = 0

[By splitting the middle terms]

⇒ 2x2 – 14x – 9x + 63 = 0

⇒ 2x (x – 7) – 9 (x – 7) = 0

⇒ (x – 7) (2x – 9) = 0

⇒ x – 7 = 0 or 2x – 9 = 0

⸫ x = 7 or x =

Draw a line segment AB of length 8 cm. Taking A as centre, draw a circle of radius 4 cm and taking B as centre, draw another circle of radius 3 cm. Construct tangents to each circle from the centre of the other circle.

20

Prove that the diagonals of a rectangle ABCD, with vertices A (2, -1), B (5, -1), C (5, 6) and D (2, 6) are equal and bisect each other.

All the red face cards are removed from a pack of 52 playing cards. A card is drawn at random from the remaining cards, after reshuffling them. Find the probability that the drawn card is

(i) red color

(ii) a queen

(iii) an ace

(iv) a face card

29

A (4, -6), B (3, -2) and C (5, 2) are the vertices of ΔABC and AD is its median. Prove that the median AD divides ΔABC into two triangles of equal areas.
