Q15 of 55 Page 1

The point A(3, y) is equidistant from the points P(6, 5) and Q(0, -3). Find the value of y.

Since the point A is equidistant from P and Q, therefore,

PA = AQ

Squaring both sides, we get:

(PA)2 = (AQ)2

(3 - 6)2 + (y - 5)2 = (0 - 3)2 + (-3 - y)2

9 + y2 + 25 – 10y = 9 + 9 + y2 + 6y

10y + 6y = 25 – 9

16y = 16

y = 1

Therefore, y = 1
