Two angles are complementary. The larger angle is 3o less than twice the measure of the smaller angle. Find the measure of each angle.

Let the larger of the two supplementary angles be ‘y’ and the smaller angle be ‘x’

Therefore, y = 2x – 3 …I


Given two angles are complementary.


x + y = 180°


⇒ x + (2x – 3) = 180


⇒ 3x - 3 = 180


⇒ 3x = 180 + 3


⇒ 3x = 183


⇒ x = 61°


Substitute x = 61 in I


y = 61× 2 – 3 = 122 – 3 = 119°


Therefore, measure of larger angle is 119° and the measure of the smaller angle is 61°
