Name three longitudinal divisions of the Himalayas and state one characteristic feature of each.

From north to south:

Himadri or Great Himalayan Range or Inner Himalayas: It is the most continuous range having an average height of 6000m and contains all prominent peaks like Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga etc.


Himachal or Lesser Himalayas: These Himalayas have an average height of 1500m to 5000m. Pir Panjal Range which is the longest range and beautiful valleys like Kashmir valley.


Shiwalik or Outer Himalayas: These Himalayas have an average height of 900m to 1200m. These ranges lie between lesser Himalayas and Northern Plains.
