Why do moss plants produce very large number of male gametes? Provide one reason. What are these gametes called?

Mosses need water for fertilization. While transferring the male gametes, many of them are destroyed. Hence, to ensure fertilization they produce very large number of male gametes.


The male gametes of mosses are called antherozoids.
