(a) Micropropagation is the technique of producing thousands of plants in tissue culture in very short period of time.


The plants raised through micropropagation are genetically identical to the original plant from which they are grown, hence, are called somaclones.


(b) Advantages of micropropagation –


• Plants are produced in a short span of time.


• Through this technique, healthy plants can be recovered from diseased plants. The plants produced through this technique are disease and pest resistant.
