On what basis is the skin colour in humans considered polygenic ?

Polygenic characteristics are defined as a trait which is controlled by more than one gene (non-allelic) skin colour in humans is considered polygenic because it is controlled by more than one pair of non-allelic genes. These genes control the melanin level of the skin which results in phenotypic variations.
