Explain any three features of Suez Canal.


Suez Canal was constructed in 1869 in Egypt between the Port Said in north and Port Suez in the south linking the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.

Its features are:


• It gives Europe a new getaway to the India Ocean.


• It reduces the direct sea-route distance between the Liverpool and Colombo as compared to the route of the Cape of Good Hope.


• About 100 ships travels from this canal each day, taking 10-12 hours in crossing the canal.
