Why is demand of water for irrigation increasing in India ? Explain with examples.

Water is one of the important resources of agriculture. The demand for water for irrigation has been increasing in India because:

High yielding crops requires more moisture supply that means they require proper irrigation system. This why the Green revolution has been successful in states of Punjab and Haryana.

Many areas in India are drought-prone or have low rainfall, which increases the need for irrigation for agricultural activities. In these areas, irrigation facilities are provided by making a canal.

Winter or Summer season in many areas constitutes very low rainfall and its usually a dry season. So, irrigation is required for agricultural activities.

In areas with ample rainfall like West Bengal or Bihar dry spells of monsoon causes a problem for agricultural activities.

There are certain crops which require more water like crops of rice, jute, etc requires large quantities of water which is only met through irrigation.
