The proportion of literate population of a country is an indicator of its socio-economic development as it indicates the standard of living of a country, availability of educational and healthcare facilities and the social status of females in the country. When a country is economically developed it focuses more on producing literate citizens and more literate citizens also, means more economic development. All the people above the 7 years of age who can read, write and do basic arithmetic problems are included in the literate population.
