How is air pollution harmful ? Explain any three different causes of air pollution.

Air pollution occurs when air pollutants like smoke, fog, fumes, carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, etc. exists in the air in harmful quantities. Air pollution causes damage to environment by affecting the flora and the fauna. Air pollution cause several respiratory diseases like bronchitis, asthma, etc. and various nervous and circulatory diseases.

The three causes of air pollution are:

Burning of fossil fuels: The Fossil fuels like coal and petroleum are used by the industries and in domestic activities. Combustion of these fossil fuels like release carbon dioxide and other air pollutants causing air pollution.

Industries: The industries are one of the major source of air pollution as they are responsible for huge amount of emission of smoke.

Transport: Buses, trains, cars, trucks, etc uses diesel or petrol as a fuel, this makes them a major contributor of air pollution. They emit carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, etc in the air and are leading cause of global warming.
