Q28 of 46 Page 1

A card is drawn at random from a well - shuffled deck of playing cards. Find the probability that the card drawn is

(i) a card of spade or an ace

(ii) a black king

(iii) neither a jack nor a king

(iv) either a king a queen

As

Where no of total outcomes = total no of cards = 52

(i) No of favorable outcomes = no of spade cards + no of ace cards - no of ace of spade cards

= 13 + 4 - 1 = 10

(ii) No of favorable outcomes = no of black kings = 2

(iii) No of favorable outcomes = no of total cards - (No of jacks + no of kings)

= 52 - (4 + 4) = 44

(iv)No of favorable outcomes = either a king or queen = No of king + No of queens = 4 + 4 = 8
