Find the zeroes of the following quadratic polynomials and verify the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients.

x2 – 2x – 8

p(x) = 0

⇒ x2 – 2x – 8 = 0


⇒ x2 + 2x – 4x – 8 = 0


⇒ x(x + 2) – 4(x + 2) = 0


⇒ (x + 2)(x – 4) = 0


⇒ x = -2 and x = 4


Hence, -2 and 4 are zeroes of the polynomial x2 – 2x – 8.


Now,


Sum of zeroes = -2 + 4


⇒ Sum of zeroes = 2





Product of zeroes = -2 × 4


⇒ Product of zeroes = -8
