Q1 of 44 Page 67

Find the zeroes of the following quadratic polynomials and verify the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients.

3x2 – x – 4

p(x) = 0

⇒ 3x2 – x – 4 = 0

⇒ 3x2 + 3x – 4x – 4 = 0

⇒ 3x(x + 1) –4(x + 1) = 0

⇒ (x + 1)(3x – 4)= 0

Hence, -1 and are zeroes of the polynomial 3x2 – x – 4.
