Common factor in a quadratic polynomial x2 + 8x + 15 and x2 + 3x – 10 is ?

Given: x2 + 8x + 15 = 0


x2 + 3x – 10 = 0


Solving the other two equations by subtracting;


⇒ 8x – 3x + 15 + 10 = 0


⇒ 5x + 25 = 0


⇒ x + 5 = 0


⇒ x = – 5


x = – 5 is the common factor.
