Q39 of 39 Page 91

.

Given:

2 (– 14 y – 13) = 18[(4 y + 5) (2 y + 7)]

– 14 y – 13 = 9[8 y2 + 28 y + 10 y + 35]

– 14 y – 13 = 72 y2 + 252 y + 90 y + 315

72 y2 + 342 y + 315 + 14 y + 13 = 0

9 y2 + 32 y + 41 = 0

For this quadratic equation let us find the discriminant.

D = b2 – 4 a c

Comparing by the equation obtained, a = 9, b = 32 and c = 41

Thus, Discriminant for the equation, D = 322 – 49 × 41

D = 1024 – 1476

D = – ve

Hence the equation will have negative roots.

So no real value of y can be obtained.
