With which objectives DMK made its entry into Indian politics?

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) made its entry into Indian politics in 1953-54 through three agitations based on linguistic issues in southern India. The first agitation was the demand for the restoration of the original name of Kallakudi railway station which had been renamed Dalmiapuram, after an industrial house from the North bringing up the north-south cultural divide prevalent in the country. This was followed by the second agitation regarding the demand for obtaining greater importance for Tamil culture in the school curricula. The third agitation was against the State government’s scheme for craft education which they alleged was based on Brahmanical social outlook. These agitations along with their opposition of Hindi as the national language led to their rising popularity in the south.
