i) Operation Blue Star ordered by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was an Indian military operation which occurred between 1 June and 6 June 1984. It was done to remove militant religious leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his militant armed followers from the Golden Temple complex.


ii) In 1969, the CPI(M) was divided into two and the new party was called the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) and decided to adopt a strategy of protracted guerrilla warfare to bring about revolution. With time, the movement splintered into various political parties and organisations with CPI – Ml (Liberation) participating in open democratic politics.


iii) The forest conservation movement in India where people prevent trees from being cut down is called the Chipko movement. It becomes a rallying point for many future environmental movements all over the world after it began in April 1973 in Reni village of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. Women and landless forest workers were the sections most affected by this movement.
