How does India benefit from a demographic dividend?

Yes, India has been able to gain benefit by deeply analyzing the demographic dividend. The main features of India's demographic dividend are:

a. The working population is larger.


b. There are a small group of older age people.


c. There is also a small group of younger people whoa re too young to work. And have to be supported.


India is one of the youngest countries in the world. In the year 2020, an average Indian would be 29 years old only as compared to 37 in China and 48 in Japan. There is a growing labour force which can be a source of economic growth and boon if it used alongside good education facilities and employment opportunities. India is facing a window of opportunity created by this demographic dividend. It must form clear cut strategies to exploit this resource. It is observed that these strategies cannot be left to the working of the market forces and clear and strong forces have to implement for its successful working.

Demographic data is the statistical data explaining the different characteristics of a population such as age, gender,, income, etc. It is important due to the following reasons:


a. It helps in the planning and implementation of state policies related to economic development and general public welfare.


b. It provides the date in a statistical form which helps to form strong arguments for the existence of social phenomena.


c. It helps in the process of research and development.
