Migration and lack of job security create poor working and living conditions for migrant labour. Explain with reference to the circulation of labour in India.


A matrix event is a combination of factors that form an event. For example, farmer suicide. These matrix events are responsible for farmer’s suicide in the following ways:

a. The farmers are unable to bear the burden of debt.


b. The crops fail and the subsidy declines.


c. The farmers are not able to repay the loans and are not able to fulfil their social obligations.

The above statement can be explained below in reference to the circulation of labour:


a. When the commercialization of agriculture, many labours migrated from rural areas to more prosperous areas.


b. The man migrated in search of better jobs and better wages. They left behind their family including their wife, children, and parents.


c. The wealthy farmers exploited these migrants and did not pay them even the minimum wages.


d. The got employment only during the harvesting period of agriculture.


e. Since they were migrants and not local coming from a poor background, they were in a relatively weaker position than their employees.
