‘Process of Sanskritisation encourages inequality and discrimination.’ Explain.

Sanskritisation was a term given by M.N.Srinivas. It is a process by which some members of a lower caste try to follow the customs and ideology of a person belonging to the higher caste. This process has been criticized on the account that it encourages inequality and discrimination. The following points support this argument:

a. Sanskritisation exaggerates the social mobility or the scope of lower caste to move up the Social ladder.

b. Its ideology is based on the fact that the ways of the upper caste are superior and that of the lower caste is inferior.

c. This concept only justifies the inequalities and the exclusions that are faced in the country.

d. It further leads to the segregation of the female, discrimination against other castes and promotion of dowry practice.

e. This has to lead to the development of the Dalit culture as well.
