a) Opioids are extracted from the opium poppy plant. The scientific name of the plant is Papaver somniferum and the source is the fruit. Its common name is Heroin or smack and the chemical name is diacetylmorphine.


b) Heroin is extremely addictive. Its specific receptors are located in the Central Nervous System and the GI tract.


Opioids tend to slow down the bodily functions and act as a depressant.
