Determine whether the given quadratic equation has root(s). If so, findthe root(s): 3y 2+ (6 + 4a)y + 8a = 0.


a = 3,

b = (6 + 4a) and

c = 8a
Δ = b 2 – 4ac

= (6 + 4a) 2 – 4(3)(8a)

= 36 + 16a 2 + 48a – 96a
= 16a 2 - 48a + 36

= (4a – 6) 2
Therefore the quadratic equation has real roots.


= -2
Therefore, the roots are -
and –2.
