x 2 + 9x + 20 = 3(x 2 + 3x + 2) + 2x
x 2 + 9x + 20 = 3x 2 + 9x + 6 + 2x
2x 2 + 2x –14 = 0
a = 2,

b = 2 and

c = –14
Δ = b 2 – 4ac

= 2 2 – 4(2)(-14)

= 4 + 112 = 116
therefore, the quadratic equation has real roots.
