Withoutsolving the quadratic equation, determine the nature of roots of the equation x

+ 3x +7 = 0.


In the given equation x 2 + 3x + 7 = 0.

Here a = 1, b = 3, c = 7.
b 2 – 4ac = 3 2 – 4(1)(7)
= 9 – 28
= -19
Since b 2 – 4ac < 0, the given equation has no real roots.
