If H and K are the roots of the equation 2x 2+ 7x = 4. Obtainthe value of
(i) H + K
(ii) HK
(iii) discriminant.


In the given problem a = 2, b = 7 and c = -4. Thus if H and K are the roots of the equation:
(i) Sum of the roots = H + K

(ii) Product of the roots = HK

(iii) b 2 – 4ac = 49 – 4(2)(-4)
= 49 + 32
= 81.
