Name the major island groups lying in the Arabian Sea. Explain any two major features of it.

Andaman and Nicobar island group are lying in the Arabian Sea. It is a Union Territory of India. They are in the Bay of Bengal. Its main features are:

i. The island group collectively has 572 islands.


ii. They are formed due to a volcanic eruption.


iii. They are bigger in size, more numerous and scattered.


iv. India’s southernmost point is Indira point which is located at Great Nicobar in this island group.


v. A ten-degree channel is a latitudinal line which separates Andaman and Nicobar.


vi. India’s only active volcano is in Barren Island which is a part of this island group.
