Highlight any 3 points of significance of the geographical location of India.

India is in South Asia and in the Northern Hemisphere. The longitudinal and latitudinal extent of India is 68°7' to 97°25' east and 8°4' to 37°6' north respectively.

i. It is a peninsular country which means it is bounded by water bodies from three sides. In the east lies the Bay of Bengal, in the west, Arabian Sea and in the South, Indian Ocean.


ii. The Indian Ocean connects India with the Africa and Gulf countries which provide India oil.


iii. Its central location between Africa and other East Asian countries which increases its importance in trade of Asia.


iv. India’s location with the Indian Ocean and long coastline provide it with an eminent position in Asia.
