Q14 of 25 Page 1

Change in social structure leads to changes in the family structure. Justify the given statement.

A family is a unit of society and society is a unit of the nation. Changes in social structure can lead to changes in the family structure because:

1. A family is linked to the economic, political, social and cultural aspects of the nation. Hence any change in the social policy will lead to a change in the structure of the family.

2. When the male head of the family migrates for economic purposes, it leads to the unusual proportions of matriarchal families in the villages.

3. Also, the urban atmosphere does not accept the culture of joint families. Nuclear families are preferred over the joint. Hence it leads to changes in the family's composition and structure. Elders do not dominate in such families.
