OR

Do you think that globalization is a threat to many indigenous crafts and literary traditions and knowledge systems? Give reasons.

Globalization affects every aspect of the life of a citizen. It has economic, social, political, technological, and cultural dimensions and affects them.

• The last decade has seen major cultural changes leading to fears that our local cultures would be overtaken. It is the soft side of globalization which does not include any forced actions or actions threatening the security of the state.

• The citizens themselves adapt according to the changing nature of the consumer markets.

• Due to its effect on the culture there is an intermixing of clothes, food items and festivals. People around the world can be seen celebrating Christmas even if it is not their festival like the Hindus do in India. Several branches of McDonald's have been opened worldwide by the United States of America due to the people liking its products.

• Homogenization of culture can be seen as an immediate effect of globalization.

OR

Yes, globalization can be seen as a threat to many indigenous crafts and literary traditions and knowledge systems because of the following reasons:

• Due to the process of globalization in India, the working people or labors were left with no option other than losing their job because there was huge competition from power looms which could do the work without human beings and hence replaced them. This even led to a huge number of suicides among the weavers. They were unable to adapt to the changes in consumer tastes and competition.

• Similarly, the traditional knowledge systems are also facing threat because of the recent attempts by the multi-national companies to patent the use of ‘Tulsi’ and ‘turmeric’ for example, has highlighted the need for protecting the base of its indigenous knowledge.
