Q1 of 35 Page 143

Answer the question briefly:

Mr. Putnam told Cade to go. Later, he asked Cade to stay. Why?

Mr. Putnam told Cade that he was the ninth person he was interviewing for teaching his child; the others had been rejected, because his special child needed a special teacher too. Cade expressed a lack of confidence on hearing this, and said that although he desperately wanted a job, he had no experience in teaching special children. This is why Mr. Putnam asked him to leave.

Later, seeing the interaction between his son Freddie and Cade, Mr. Putnam was convinced that Cade will be able to prove a good teacher to Freddie. Freddie had hugged Cade when he gifted him the pen, and Mr. Putnam could see through the affection in Cade for the little child. This is why he asked him to stay later on.
