What does Cade mean by 'This has nothing to do with him'?

Carter takes offense when Cade tells him to abstain from teaching Freddie in hos own ways. Cade tries to assert that he is the appointed teacher for the task, while Carter is just the handyman who should keep to his business. The supposed discrimination hurts Carter. It seems Cade is commenting on skin and race. This is when Cade replies with the words, “This has nothing to do with skin.” He means to say that he is not discriminating on the basis of race, but only on the basis of the tasks assigned to each of them.
