Answer these question very briefly
Why do you think Mr. Putnam let Freddie go with Carter?
Mr. Putnam lets Freddie go with Carter because he sees, for the first time, his son having really learnt something, and enjoying it as well. Freddie was able to fix a tire for a stranger, and earnt his first dollar for the same. This was definitely something that took Mr. Putnam by surprise, along with making him proud. Besides, Freddie could reach Carter’s place all by himself, could read and write – the proof being the letter he had left at the gate of his house.
Freddie had learnt all of this from Carter, the handyman. Despite not being a formal teacher, he had managed to teach Freddie a lot while still playing with him. He was caring and affectionate towards the child. Besides, his own nephew Joey was of Freddie’s age and the two played together along with other children. Freddie was happy and eager to play with other kids his age, something he hadn’t done before. This was the reason Mr. Putnam allowed Freddie to go with Carter.
