Q1 of 157 Page 724

Find the distance between the points:

A(1, – 3) and B(4, – 6)

In this question, we have to use the distance formula to find the distance between two points which is given by, say for points P(x1,x2) and Q(y1,y2) then

PQ = √(x2 – x1)2 + (y2 – y1)2

AB = √{(4 – 1)2 + (– 6 – (– 3))2}

= √{(3)2 + (– 3)2}

= √{9 + 9}

= √18

∴ AB = 3√2 units
