Q1 of 157 Page 753

Find the area of ΔABC whose vertices are:

A(3, 8), B(–4, 2) and C(5, –1)

Area of triangle

= 1/2(x1(y2−y3) + x2(y3−y1) + x3(y1−y2))

= 1/2(3(2 + 1)–4(–1–8) + 5(8–2))

= 1/2(9 + 36 + 30)

= 1/2(75)

= 37.5 sq units
