Q27 of 157 Page 737

In what ratio does y – axis divide the line segment joining the points (– 4, 7) and (3, – 7)?

Let the coordinate of the point on y axis be (0,y)

0 = (m1x2 + m2x1)/ m1 + m2

0 = (m13 + m2(– 4))/ m1 + m2

0 = (3m1 – 4m2)/ m1 + m2

(3m1 – 4m2) = 0

3m1 = 4m2

m1: m2 = 4:3
