A garden 120 m long and 85 m wide has an inside path of a uniform width of 3.5 m around it. The remaining part of the garden is covered by grass. Find the cost of covering the garden by grass at 50 paise per square meter


Area of the complete rectangle = l × b


Total Area of the garden = 120 × 85 = 10200 m2


Area of garden excluding the width of path


Length = 120 - (2 × 3.5) = 113 m


Breadth = 85 - (2 × 3.5) =78 m


Area = 113 × 78 = 8814 m2


Cost of grass per square meter is 50 paise


Total cost = 8814 × (0.50) = Rs. 4407
