A rectangular hall is 22m long and 15.5m broad. A carpet is laid inside the hall leaving all around a margin of 75 cm from the walls. Find the area of the carpet and the area of the strip left uncovered if the width of the carpet is 82 cm. Find the cost fencing the strip at the rate of Rs. 124 per meter.

Given:


length of rectangular hall =22 m


Breadth of rectangular hall = 15 m


1 m = 100cm


Length of margin = 75 cm = 0.75 m


Therefore, effective length = 22 - (0.75 × 2) = 20.5 m


Effective breadth = 15.5 - (0.75 × 2) = 14 m


Total area = 14 × 20.5 = 287 m2


Let the length of carpet used be x


Area of carpet = 0.82 x m2


0.82 x = 287


x = 350 m


Therefore, the total cost of the carpet is


350 × 124 = Rs. 43400
