Explain how the critical edition of Mahabharata was prepared.

The critical edition of Mahabharata was prepared under Indian Sanskritist V.S. Sukhthankar. This project began in 1919, in which all the common verses in different versions of Mahabharata, collected from different parts of the country, were compared and then published, running over 13,000 pages. This project lasted for 47 years.
