Why did social changes in colonial India not happen with ease ? Explain.

The social changes in colonial India took time as the British decided not to interfere with people’s religion and culture. And when new wave of ideas and attitude were flowing around Europe, the British sought to do the same in India. But the social changes was not easy like the women in cities, who now had the opportunities to work was seen as a threat to the conservative patriarchal structure. And many poor class people were coming to cities for better jobs and livelihood. Unfortunately city life was tough as the food and accommodation was expensive.
