Explain the Brahmanical practice ‘Gotra’.

The Brahman practice of ‘Gotra’ was practised during the c.1000 BCE, in which people were classified according to their Vedic seer. All the people belonging to a gotra were thought as descendants. The women were required to give their father’s name and take their husband’s name upon marriage.
