Q1 of 62 Page 180

In a ΔABC, D and E are points on the sides AB and AC respectively such that DE || BC.

If AD = 6 cm, DB = 9 cm and AE = 8 cm, then find AC.

Given DE||BC and AD = 6cm, DB = 9cm and AE = 8 cm

Required: AC = ?

Here, DE||BC, ∴ By Thales theorem

∴ EC = 12cm

∴ AC = AE + EC = 8 + 12 = 20cm

∴ Length of AC = 20cm
