Mention four purposes for which the plants need water.

The four major purposes are-

i. Photosynthesis: water is used as the raw material for glucose synthesis


ii. Transpiration: process by which water is released in the environment in form of vapour for the purpose of cooling in hot weather, for creating suction pressure, etc.


iii. Transportation: water is required as a transport medium which can dissolve substances, such as minerals and sugar, and transport it upwards into the stem or from the leaves to other parts respectively.


iv. Mechanical support: water provides turgidity to plant which is required for the rigidity required by its tissue to remain erect and upright.
