The process by which intact plants lose water in the form of droplets from leaf margins.

In certain plants, such as grass, banana, etc. the root pressure is very high. Thus the water rushing up the stem is much more than the amount of water transpired during the day. This excess water is thus lost as tiny droplets along the margin of the leaf generally seen in the early morning. This process is known as guttation.
