List their main characteristics of the roots that suit them to draw water from the soil.

The main characteristics of the roots regarding the absorption of water are-

i. Enormous surface area of the roots with its branches and root hairs.


ii. Highly concentrated cell sap in the root hairs to facilitate osmosis.


iii. The thin walls of the root hairs, that is, thin permeable cell wall and a very thin semi-permeable cell membrane.


Note: osmosis is the process in which movement of water takes place from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration across a semi-permeable membrane.
