Write a short note on stomata.

1. Stomata are the tiny pores present on the surface of the leaves.


2. They have bean-shaped guard cells which maintain the opening and closing of the stomata.


3. These play an important role in the process of photosynthesis.


4. The water required for the photosynthesis is exchanged through these pores.


5. The exchange of gases also takes place through these pores only.


6. Stomata help in maintaining the water balance of the plant.
