Explain any two areas of major conflict between India and Pakistan after partition.

The state of Kashmir has been a bone of contention between India and Pakistan since Independence and several wars have been fought between the two nations over this issue. The division of the province into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and the Indian province of Jammu and Kashmir by the Line of Control was a result of the 1947-48 war. India did win the 1971 war against Pakistan but has failed to settle the Kashmir issue.


Another area of major conflict between India and Pakistan has been over the sharing of river waters. They had been involved in a fierce agreement over the use of the rivers of the Indus basin until 1960. But then with the help of the World Bank, both nations signed the Indus Waters Treaty in 1960 which has withstood the frequent skirmishes between the nations.
