Q8 of 113 Page 60

Find the quotient and the remainder when:

f(x) = x4 – 5x + 6 is divided by g(x) = 2 – x2.

It is given in the question that,

f (x) = x4 – 5x + 6 = x4 + 0x3 + 0x2 – 5x + 6

And, g (x) = x2 + 1 – x

Hence,

Quotient q (x) = x2 – 2

Remainder r (x) = 5x + 10

Find the quotient and the remainder when:

f(x) = x3 – 3x2 + 5x –3 is divided by g(x) = x2 – 2.

7

Find the quotient and the remainder when:

f(x) = x4 – 3x2 + 4x + 5 is divided by g(x) = x2 + 1 – x.

9

By actual division, show that x3 – 3 is a factor 2x4 + 3x3 – 2x2 – 9x – 12.

10

On dividing 3x3 + x2 + 2x + 5 by a polynomial g(X), the quotient and remainder are (3x – 5) and (9x + 10) respectively. Find g(x).
